Sibiu, Targu Mures, Sighisoara, Oradea. Apart from the big cities mentioned in the first episode, these are by far the most worthy to visit in Romania. You will find my reviews for these beautiful places on the blog, for now - let's see what Booking has to say in terms of accommodation!
Like the first time - I went to Booking.com. I searched for two dates (November 22 & August 14), locations with ratings around 8.
Three categories to choose from - luxury, regular and budget.
Double checked with reviews on Trip Advisor for all the selected locations.
You have the full description of the process in the first article on this topic.
What's different is that I haven't only focused on a central location. The cities are pretty small and cozy, so reaching the top areas is an easy task. However, for regular and budget categories, I have preferred a more central facility if it was a few Euros more expensive. In this way, one can enjoy the heart of the city and of course won't loose time and money for transport, taxis etc.
So, without further ado, let's go on and see what to book in the top cities of Romania!
Top Areas: Great/Large Square or the Little Square
Luxury: Hilton Sibiu. It is located very close to the ASTRA Museum at the edge of Sibiu. Hilton is the only 5-star hotel in Sibiu, enjoying a wide variety of facilities and excellent conditions. Price: 101 Euro (August 14), 136 Euro (November 22)
Secondary options (central only): Cetatea Medievala, Republique
Regular: There are many options here, but I was really stunned by Vicenza Square - a 4-star guesthouse charging only 36 Euro per night! You could think the price/quality ratio is unreal, but it's not: I have digged down and it seems really really good!
Secondary options: Rosen Villa Sibiu, Hotel Am Ring
Budget: Pensiunea Atia. It is an excellent option for budget travellers, around 1 km away from the city center. It only costs 15 Euro per night, regardless season!
Top area: Roses Square, Cornesti Plateau
Luxury: Hotel Privo. It is top of mind for anyone lodging in Targu Mures! Central location, excellent conditions, best facilities in town... It offers anythink you can think of, and more. Price range: 83 - 89 Euro per night
Secondary options: Plaza V Executive Hotel, Hotel Concordia
Villa Helvetia. A 3-star guesthouse with exceptional ratings, mostly appreciated for the central location, staff friendliness, for its large rooms and delicious breakfast. Price: 36-38 Euro
Secondary options: Pension Tempo, Pensiunea Imperial
Budget: Pensiunea Doina & Jeno. Despite ratings under 8 and a little out of the city center, the negative feedback should not disturb a budget traveller too much. Pricing is the best in Targu Mures - 21 Euro per night.
Secondary options: Pensiunea Bavareza, Hotel Everest
Top area: the old town
Luxury: Casa Savri. Many options in Sighisoara, but this one enjoys the highest rating, the best location inside the historical center, and a beautiful medieval, typical Transylvanian atmosphere. Prices: 90 Euro (November 22), 140 Euro (August 14).
Secondary options: Casa Georgius Krauss Sighisoara (almost similar atmosphere but around half the price), Hotel Central Park Sighisoara (best hotel in town according to Trip Advisor), DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Sighisoara - Cavaler (to be chosen for its many facilities)
Regular: Casa cu Cerdac. Sighisoara is an important touristic destination in Romania, so prices strongly differ between high- and off-season. The most affordable difference, the greatest location and the highest ratings are to be found at Casa cu Cerdac. It is perfect for enjoying top-rated facilities, as well as for starting charming short strolls towards the city center. Fees: 33 Euro (November 22), 40 Euro (August 14).
Secondary options (more central but big pricing differences between August and November): Aparthotel Sighisoara, Pensiunea Gasthaus Alte Post
Budget: Burg Hostel Sighisoara. It is difficult to find a location under 25 Euro for August, so Burg Hostel is the best alternative, despite ratings under 8. It is a few steps from the major sights, it is commonly cheap and offers great value for money (25 Euro per night), plus clear access to the main places of Sighisoara.
Secondary options (in high demand though): Casa Lia, Cosbuc Residence, Casa Adalmo, Pension Norbert
Top areas: Republicii street, Oradea Fortress or Unirii Square.
Luxury: DoubleTree by Hilton Oradea. It is by far the best luxury option, with no flaws in terms of location, facilities, score and relevance (1200 reviews). Price range: 57 - 72 Euro
Secondary options: Hotel Elite Boutique & Spa, Hotel Nevis Wellness & SPA
Regular: Hotel Cetate. Three 3-star hotels popped up for my criteria, and I think this one is the best. It is beautifully located in an old building inside the citadel. Guests seem happy with the huge rooms and the peaceful area, while price is really competitive - 38 Euro per night.
Secondary options: Caro Boutique Hotel, Stokker Hotel
Budget: Hotel Atlantic. It is probably the cheapest 4-star hotel in the world! OK, they don't serve breakfast, doesn't have an elevator, but who really cares when you are literally in the heart of the city?? Price: 26 Euro
Secondary options: Avalon Rooms, Podgoria Guesthouse (19 Euro, best ratings but far from the center), Guesthouse Daniel
