OK, so we've been to Iasi this weekend. Our friends keep asking us why, and I have to admit it is not really the most popular place in Romania. Well, I can tell you this, after three more days in the capital of Moldavia: it is actually comparable with any city-break destination in Europe, with a big bonus: it has the most unique combination of old and new, in the same place, I can think of in this world!
Around 25 deltas have been formed all over the world, and one of them lies almost entirely in Romania. The Danube Delta is the second largest in Europe and one of the most spectacular and best preserved in the world. It is formed around the three main channels flowing into the Black Sea - Chilia, Sulina and Sfantu Gheorghe. It has been metaphorically called “Europe’s Unrivalled Wetland” and it’s a paradise for any flora and fauna lover who is ready to discover the most unique species in the world!
The Romanians Abroad section gets richer every day! Some awesome professionals happily share their story, their performances, their values and beliefs, their life abroad or their feelings towards Romania. However, I thought it was a little unfair for older interviews to remain somewhere in the back of this blog, just because some people believed in this project earlier than others. So I felt the need to create this ever-growing list, containing a short overview for each and every individual we Romanians should all be proud of!
Bukovina and Maramures create the entire northern part of Romania, an area which is more than interesting to explore. The same as Maramures but with a different identity, Bukovina also impresses with the beauty of the mountains, the century-long traditions and the tasty cuisine. What stands it apart is the strong medieval legacy, with the region finding its glory back in the 15th century as part of Stefan cel Mare's Moldavia. The historical area is nowadays split in two between Romania and Ukraine, and this article looks to cover the uniqueness and beauty of the Romanian territory.
Maramures is the best place in Romania to taste a wide variety of beautiful, old customs. Basically there is no week during one year without an interesting event, whether it's about wearing folk costumes, tasting local food or mastering wood. Add to that some of the most unique things to do in the whole world, the astonishing natural scenery or the second largest protected area in the country, and there you have it - the region in Romania that can offer a full experience!
